Malteser International is the worldwide relief service of the Order of Malta for humanitarian aid. For nearly 60 years, Malteser International has been standing by those affected by poverty, disease, conflict and disaster, helping them lead a healthy life with dignity. Christian values and the humanitarian principles are the foundation of Malteser’s work.

Malteser International has around 900 employees worldwide, of which about 800 are local staff and 100 are international experts.

Sought profiles

Regularly sought profiles: coordinators, administrators, project managers, medical and technical experts (public health, WASH, DRR). The basic requirements for an assignment abroad include:

  • completed professional training
  • professional experience of at least two to three years
  • work experience in developing countries, especially in the field of development cooperation/humanitarian aid
  • excellent knowledge of English and, depending on the assignment, also of French or Spanish
  • ability to live in the tropics
  • intercultural sensitivity
  • commitment and team spirit
  • readiness to live and work under hard and restrictive conditions.

Opportunities for students and junior professionals

Malteser International offers a one-year “Career Entry Programme” for young professionals in the field of humanitarian aid. Candidates will work at the headquarters in Cologne for the first six months of the programme and for the next six months, they will continue work in one of the projects abroad. Candidates must fulfil the following requirements:

  • relevant university degree in the field of humanitarian aid / international cooperation
  • fluent English, preferably also French or Spanish; good knowledge of German
  • experience in foreign countries or relevant internships in international organisations and knowledge in the field of emergency relief and development cooperation are advantageous
  • identification with the goals of Malteser as a Catholic organization
