What drives the careers of Swiss professionals who work for UN agencies or international financial institutions? Why do people decide to join, remain or discontinue working in multilateral organisations? And to what extent did their experience meet their expectations? This study provides answers.

The study examines the factors that play a role in professionals' decisions to join, stay in, or leave a career in selected multilateral organisations (11 UN organisations, 5 multilateral development banks). It reveals that the main reasons influencing the decision process are:
- meaningful work,
- interesting and multifaceted work content,
- personal identification with the institution's values,
- challenging work,
- and professional development opportunities.
In contrast, financial reasons have only a minor impact.
