The UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, also known as UN Women, is the UN organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Switzerland and UN Women

Switzerland is currently one of UN Women’s top financial donor. Its mandate fully aligns with Switzerland’s priorities to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. In future, Switzerland will focus on supporting UN Women by developing new partnerships and strengthening its capacities and impact regarding women’s political participation, leadership, gender-responsive public planning and budgeting, economic empowerment, and ending violence against women.

As of October 2017, UN Women employed 3 Swiss staff. For experienced professionals

Professionals with at least 5 years of relevant experience are regularly sought for mid-career (P-3 and P-4) to senior-level (P-5, D-1, D-2) positions or UNVUN Volunteers assignments.

  • Explore vacant staff positions and consultancies on UN Women’s jobs database
  • Look out for application calls to join a roster or talent pool on UN Women's website. Pools of pre-selected candidates allow the organisation to identify and mobilise experienced professionals whenever the need arises.
  • Register on the UNV database to become available for UN Volunteer specialist assignments with UN Women. These significantly underrated positions are the starting point for many professional careers with the UN.

For junior professionals

For students and recent graduates

The UN Youth Volunteers Programme regularly offers young graduates the opportunity to gain direct exposure to UN Women's work in the field. Some UNYVUN Youth Volunteers positions are only open to nationals of certain countries or graduates of certain universities. Graduate-level master's, post-master's or doctoral students can complement their studies with practical experience through an internship at UN Women.

Around 430 staff operate from headquarters, 47 country offices, 6 multi-country offices and 6 regional offices.
