CAS International Cooperation

Are you a junior manager, a specialist or a career changer with a technical, environmental, economic or social background? Do you want to prepare yourself for a leadership position or deepen your management skills?

This CAS examines a broad range of competencies that are crucial for high performance in international cooperation organisations today. The course covers self-leadership and team-building, offers tools and methods for implementing change projects and managing people and conflicts in multicultural teams, and deals with fostering partnerships with local players.

The programm consists of 3 modules:

Leadership in international cooperation

You get to know each other, clarify expectations and discuss the syllabus and preparatory textbook.

Peer-to-peer consultations
You present a case study of your individual leadership practice. It is discussed in the group and solutions are developed jointly. 

Career orientation session
With a career advisor, you address questions related to your career and clarify CAS-related topics.

Concluding colloquium
The colloquium brings together the threads of the CAS modules and gives you an overview of new leadership trends.

Module 2
Management in the SDG context

Global trends and sustainability management
You are introduced to global trends in sectors such as biodiversity, energy, nutrition, migration. Participants explore how they affect the strategy and portfolio of their organisations.

Cooperation systems
Projects in international cooperation often involve cooperation systems. The factors that influence the success of cooperation are discussed with focus on field and headquarter situations.

Transparency and impact evaluation
Managing projects in developing and transition countries involves dealing with various challenges. Transparency and evaluation criteria offer a compass to reach goals. 

Innovation and management professionalisation
Increasing competition drives organisations to seek new funding sources, professionalise financial management, improve processes and push forward the innovation of their services.

Strategic change and organisational development in the SDG context
You are introduced to change management, organisational development and sustainability. You analyse case studies of Swiss organisations and identify success factors.

Module 3
Skills for organisational success

Self-leadership and mindfulness
Today’s managers are exposed to challenges and uncertainties. Cultivating awareness and reflexivity are vital to find their role within the organisation and to respond to demanding situations. 

Performance skills
The lesson aims at showing that performance skills are linked to individual attitude and further developing confidence in interactions in organisational settings and public events.

Leadership, teambuilding and group dynamics
Building trust and inspiring motivation are central management tasks. You discuss case studies and practical examples from the field.

Leadership ethics and intercultural conflict management
How to deal with people from different cultural backgrounds? This lesson focuses on leadership ethics, intercultural communication and conflict resolution.

Security and resilience
Most projects are implemented in countries with a high degree of uncertainty. You are introduced to risk analysis, security measures and strengthening individual resilience.

You will:

  • understand the sustainable development goal agenda and know how to apply it in your organisation;
  • acquire core competencies for successful leadership, which help to drive change processes in organisations;
  • strengthen professional competencies by acquiring techniques and tools, in particular in the areas of project, partnership and people management;
  • expand your repertoire for action in order to deal with different expectations and situations;
  • recognise personal potential to grow and meet the challenges in your professional environment.
