IDB Invest finances projects to advance clean energy, modernize agriculture, strengthen transportation systems and expand access to financing in Latin America and the Carribean.

Like the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), our commitment is to economic growth and social inclusion; that is central to our identity, as part of the IDB Group. But our focus is on the private sector.

How we work

IDB Invest is leveraging decades of experience as an impact investor to serve as a gateway to SDG impact.

IDB Invest’s mandate is to maximize development impact while maintaining financial sustainability, a two-sided objective shared with many impact investors. To crowd in private capital, we offer our strong capacity to select and structure projects with the greatest impact potential, manage ESG risks, and build a strong pipeline of SDG-enabling investment opportunities in the region.

As a member of the IDB Group, we are a start-up with history. We draw on the experience and knowledge the Inter-American Development Bank has accumulated over the course of nearly six decades. Our close cooperation with the IDB, which serves the public sector, creates synergies that benefit our clients and the whole region.

At IDB Invest, we are setting an example in climate finance. With 35 percent of our investments related to climate action, we are already the greenest multilateral development bank—this according to figures in the 2016 Joint Report on Multilateral Development Banks’ Climate Finance—, and we are working to increase that portfolio.

In 2017 we launched the “100% Committed to Gender Equality” campaign as the IDB Group. We share stories from our clients that show how gender-equality practices have increased the impact on development and led to better business results.

Since 2017, IDB Invest has gone through the EDGE Certification (Economic Dividends for Gender Equality). In July 2021, we were upgraded to the second level, EDGE Move, reflecting our constant search for improvements and strong commitment on Gender Equality.
