)
IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialised United Nations agency that is dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries.
IFAD invests in rural people, empowering them to increase their food security, improve their families' nutrition and increase their incomes. IFAD also helps them build resilience, expand their businesses and take charge of their own development.
Focusing on the following sustainable development goals (SDGs)
How we work
IFAD works with its member states and stakeholders to generate improved, more resilient livelihoods for all poor rural people – smallholder farmers, land-poor and landless workers, women and youth, marginalised ethnic groups, and victims of disaster and conflict – without undermining the natural resource base. IFAD goes where poverty and hunger are most extreme and where few development agencies dare to venture – the most remote regions of developing countries and areas with fragile situations.
... and why
IFAD envisions vibrant, inclusive and sustainable rural economies, where people live free from poverty and hunger.
