FSD was established as a non-governmental humanitarian organisation. Our core profession is mine action, but we are also active in other humanitarian sectors.
FSD conducted its first demining project in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1998. Since then, our deminers have cleared more than 1.4 million explosive devices, securing an area the size of 12'000 football pitches.
Focusing on the following sustainable development goals (SDGs)
How we work
Mine action is our core mission. It comprises five pillars: mine clearance, stockpile destruction, risk education, mine victim assistance and advocacy.
We also clean up sites contaminated by toxic legacy materials, in particular obsolete pesticides, waste from former uranium mines and heavy metals.
... and why
We work for a world free of mines and other dangerous remnants of war. Where women, men and children can live in a safe and sustainable environment.
Our primary goal is to save lives and relieve suffering wherever it occurs.
- We act on the basis of need, giving priority to the most urgent cases without discrimination.
- We don't take sides in armed conflicts or political or ideological disputes within a state.
- We carry out our activities as independently as possible.
