ADES
Sustainably effective for Madagascar.
2001, the ADES association is founded in Ottenbach ZH. After ADES concentrated on the production of solar cookers in the first few years, the organisation integrated new areas of responsibility into its activities over the years. ADES grew into an NGO with well over 200 employees in Madagascar, eight centres, seven branches and three ADES mobiles, producing over 70,000 cookers a year.
Focusing on the following sustainable development goals (SDGs)
How we work
ADES follows a three-pillar approach. Based on fundamental social values and with the aim of preserving Madagascar's forests and livelihoods, the three pillars of its activities include:
- Solar and energy-saving cookers
- Education and awareness raising
- Reforestation
... and why
To protect the nature of the island of Madagascar and its people, it is not enough to reduce the consumption of wood and coal alone. That is why ADES takes a holistic approach and accompanies the cookstove production with reforestation, awareness-raising and education projects. Deforested areas are replanted and children as well as adults receive educational opportunities and are sensitised to environmental concerns.
