United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA's mission is to mobilise and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies, advocate the rights of people in need, promote preparedness and prevention, and facilitate sustainable solutions.

In 2017, OCHA had a total of 2'120 staff, 1,624 of whom worked in the field and 496 at headquarters.

Opportunities for students and junior professionals

The United Nations Young Professionals Programme (YPPYoung Professionals Programme ) allocates selected candidates to OCHA offices. Only nationals of participating countries may apply.
Further information

Young professionals may also participate in the Junior Professional Officer (JPOJunior Professional Officer ) Programme, provided that they are nationals of a donor country. Switzerland is currently a donor country.
